Residential Solar Installations
MEDA OFFERS GRID-TIED SOLAR SYSTEMS, HYBRID SOLAR SYSTEMS(BATTERY STORAGE), OFF GRID SOLAR SOLUTIONS AND RETRO FITTED AC COUPLED SYSTEMS.
At MEDA, we specialize in providing customized solar solutions to suit your home’s energy needs. Whether you’re looking to reduce your energy bills with a grid-tied system or achieve complete energy independence with an off-grid setup, we’ve got the expertise to help you choose the right solution. Our team specialises in off-grid installations, but we offer a full range of solar services, including grid-tied and hybrid systems. For those with non-hybrid inverters, we also provide AC-coupled battery solutions.
Why Go Solar?
Solar energy offers numerous benefits:
Lower Energy Bills: Reduce your monthly power costs and protect against rising electricity prices.
Energy Independence: Gain freedom from the grid with an off-grid or hybrid system.
Sustainability: Reduce your carbon footprint and contribute to a greener future.
Increased Home Value: Solar systems can increase the resale value of your property.
Types of Solar Systems We Offer
1. Grid-Tied Systems
The most cost-effective to install, grid-tied systems are perfect for homes that still rely on the grid but want to cut energy costs. These systems export excess power back to the grid, but because most Kiwis use more power in the evenings when solar isn't producing, the savings may not be as high as with a battery storage system.
2. Hybrid Systems (With Battery Storage)
Hybrid systems offer a more advanced solution by combining solar energy with battery storage. This allows you to store excess solar energy generated during the day in batteries for use during the evening, night, or during power outages, reducing your reliance on the grid. Here are the key benefits:
Energy Storage: Hybrid systems allow you to capture the power your solar panels generate during the day, which you can use later, significantly lowering your electricity bills.
Backup Power: With stored energy in your battery, you’ll have backup power available during grid outages, keeping essential systems like lights, refrigerators, and communications running smoothly.
Reduced Grid Reliance: By using stored energy during the evening and night, when energy consumption is higher, hybrid systems further decrease your need for grid-supplied electricity, resulting in more savings.
Though hybrid systems have a higher initial cost than grid-tied systems, they offer a greater return on investment because they maximise your energy usage.
3. Off-Grid Systems
For those wanting complete independence from the grid, an off-grid system is the solution. Though they have the highest initial cost, these systems eliminate your power bill entirely. Off-grid systems can be especially cost-effective for remote homes, where the infrastructure for grid connections might be expensive to install.
4. AC-Coupled Systems
If you already have a grid-tied inverter, such as the Fronius Primo, an AC-coupled system is an excellent way to add battery storage without replacing your existing setup. By adding a secondary inverter like a Victron MultiPlus, you can store excess solar energy in batteries, which can be used at night or during power outages. AC-coupled systems offer wider battery compatibility and increased scalability. Plus, they allow you to maximise your self-consumption while maintaining the ability to export power back to the grid.
Which System Is Right for You?
Choosing the right system depends on various factors:
Energy Needs: How much power do you use daily, and when do you use it?
Roof or Land Space: Do you have enough space for solar panels to meet your energy needs?
Budget: Are you looking for the most affordable option or aiming for long-term energy independence?
At MEDA, we’ll take into account your specific situation to help you make an informed decision. Our experienced team will design, supply, and install the perfect system for your home, ensuring a smooth process from start to finish.
